In collegiate rowing recruiting, there are two major possible student athlete strategies.

The first strategy is to maximize your child’s athletic potential. A version of this strategy could be to target the highest ranked Division I school that your child’s skills support. The second strategy is to maximize your child’s academic potential. This strategy could target the highest ranked national university or liberal arts school in the US News and World Report College Rankings. There are many variants of each of these two major strategies.

MAXIMIZE THEIR ATHLETIC POTENTIAL
A variant of maximizing their athletic potential could be to drive for an athletic scholarship. Another variant could be to drive towards a large state university with many “big time” sports programs, great school spirit and an enthusiastic student body.

MAXIMIZE THEIR ACADEMIC POTENTIAL
A variant of maximizing their academic potential could be to specifically target the Ivy League. Another variant could be targeting “stretch schools” that your child’s GPA and standardized tests on their own would not qualify for.
